To find primary source documents related to slavery in the colonies of what would become the United States, it is often necessary to search a broader collection. The collections below are not specific to slavery in the colonies, but do contain primary sources related to that subject and time period. Search these collections for keywords like Africans and slaves and, when possible, limit the dates to the colonial time period of the 17th and 18th centuries (or from about 1600 to about 1800).
