What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the process through which you can borrow books, articles, and other materials from a library you are not affiliated with. For instance, if the Columbia College Chicago Library does not have a copy of a book you need you can request that book from a another library, like SAIC or UIC.

At Columbia, we primarily use two systems for ILL:

  • I-Share for books (sorry, ebooks are not available for lending through ILL)
  • Tipasa for articles and book chapters

For more information on the two systems and links to access them, visit the Interlibrary Loan page of the library website.
